This beautiful vintage embroidered tray cloth has been skilfully made in off white linen which has then been superbly hand embroidered with pretty daffodils and flowers in purple and yellow. The edge has a bobbin lace trim. It would make a lovely table decoration or kept for its own vintage charm. This beautiful mat measures 30cm x 44cm / 12” x 17.5”. It is in good condition for its age but there is a faint water mark in one place in the linen. During the Victorian era, embroidered tablecloths grew in popularity and the motifs most frequently used were decorative florals as accents in the corners or center of a tablecloth, or along the borders. Geometric patterns were also embraced, often forming intricate borders. The word ‘linen’ can be used to describe the fabric made from the flax plant as well as a generic term for tablecloths, napkins,
